Elizabeth’s story

For safeguarding reasons, Elizabeth’s name has been changed.

Elizabeth had never used a food bank before, but after fleeing domestic violence, found herself with no other means of feeding herself and her two children.

At a time when she had only just made the brave and difficult decision to escape her marriage, and had consequently lost her home and access to finances, we were able to provide not only food, but toiletries, cleaning products, and some books and toys for her children.

The domestic abuse practitioner from Family Safeguarding Lancaster who referred Elizabeth to us, and supports Elizabeth, got in touch the next day to let us know that Elizabeth was very emotional and grateful to receive such a parcel, and that the next day she was still talking about how much the parcel meant to her.

‘Not only has the food parcel provided her with much needed provisions but it has also shown her that after years of mistrust and isolation there are still people in the world who care and that are willing to help’

We recognise that no single person’s situation is the same, and we always try to make sure that each parcel is suited to make people feel cared for in whatever circumstances they find themselves in.

In the darkest points of life, we aim to show that, as a local charity, we are not only there to support people and our community, but that our work is simply a reflection of the far greater unconditional love that God has for us all.
